Well, actually, I am not the original creator of this theory. That would be YouTuber Alius Cogitabam. (If you would like more information on this theory, I would suggest the second half of her video "Over-Analyzing Miraculous Ladybug: The Bubbler.") I became pretty much obsessed with this theory, and actually started adding a few details of my own, until I knew I had to post it. If Alius somehow sees this, she is completely allowed to de-bunk every addition I make.
There have been many claims that Gabriel Agreste is Hawk Moth. According to this theory, he is not. But guess what else he's not?
Adrien's biological father.
I know it sounds strange, but stick with me.
The idea is that before Ms. Soon-to-be-Adrien's-mom became Mrs. Agreste, she had a relationship with Mr. Gabriel's-brother-Agreste, A.K.A. Mr. Soon-to-be-Hawk-Moth. It ended badly. When I say badly, I mean it ended in two things. The first is Adrien Agreste. The second is something illegal.
Now, I suppose you could say that Adrien was a result of the something illegal, but I'm just going to veer away from that in my magic Go-Kart of rated-PG-ness. You can also just say it ended in something illegal and still have Adrien be Gabriel's biological son, but don't worry: I have more.
Hawk Moth is shown to be very charismatic and can be (albeit very weirdly) charming to his victims. HMM, I WONDER WHO ELSE ON THIS SHOW IS CHARISMATIC AND CHARMING???

Now, I think that Ms. Adrien's-mom met both Gabriel and Cray-Cray-Dude somehow (I kind of like the idea in this comic dub by Valory Pierce in which Ms. Adrien's-mom is a model). Gabriel did like her, but when she decides to go for your mentally unstable brother and if you tell her he's mentally unstable you're going to look like a jealous jerk, and on top of that you're trying to build a fashion empire, there isn't much you can do.
Because Gabriel was being so nice, what with the lawyers and the protection for her and Adrien, Ms. Adrien's-mom began to like him. And considering that she didn't want her son to know he was the illegitimate child of a crazy dude who was now in prison, and it was kind of obvious to her that Gabriel liked her back, she managed to get Gabriel to actually say it (and boy did it take work). It didn't take long after that before they decided to get married. Not only did they love each other, they had to hurry it up before Adrien became old enough to retain long-term memory.
Several years go by, until we find ourselves roughly a few months before the Origins episodes take place. Cray-Cray-Dude served his time in prison, slowly growing more and more insane during it, and he eventually gets out. I don't have a solution as to how he managed to get the Butterfly Miraculous, but I'm willing to bet that Gabriel knew.
Quick question: your brother just got out of prison, your wife is his ex, your son is actually his biological son, and he's crazy and is obsessed with finding two magical accessories so he can obtain this godlike power that everyone is afraid of, and you can't do anything that will arouse public suspicion because you are a household name and your son (who you're pretty sure is secretly a superhero) doesn't know any of this, what do you do?
Most of you would answer "hide in a trashcan for eternity," but not Gabriel Agreste. Call him Big Hero 6, cause he's a man of action.
Okay, that joke is so bad not even Cat Noir would have made it.
Here's where things get a little tricky. This whole next chunk of the theory was all created by me, and it involves tying in the Peacock Miraculous and the book from "Volpina." The thing is, I can see a couple different possibilities for how each item ended up in Gabriel's safe.
Possibility #1: Mrs. Agreste is/was Peacock Woman
As to why Mrs. Agreste stopped being Peacock Woman: she probably did the same thing Marinette did in "Origins." Except she didn't re-accept the peacock. (I don't know why she rejected it or why it was even given to her in the first place; I told you that this was where things got tricky.)
Possibility #2: Gabriel was Peacock Guy
Next up are a few other ways I can think of that Gabriel came into possession of the book other than Mrs. Agreste giving it to him. Mrs. Agreste can still be Peacock Woman with these ideas.
Possibility #3: Hawk Moth found the book
Possibility #4: The book was a family thing
Anyway, back to what you should do if you ever happen to find yourself in this situation.
Somehow you JUST HAPPEN TO HAVE two very important plot points - I mean, things your brother is after - in your locked safe! How convenient!
What else is in that safe? A brochure on Tibet! Where is Tibet? In China, which JUST HAPPENS TO BE the origin country of the Miraculous! (I think from this we can assume that Gabriel sent his wife to Tibet, but you probably already guessed that. You also might have guessed that Mrs. Agreste is trying to gather information on/track down the Miraculous. But don't worry - I have more.)
And believe it or not, your son, whose schedule is managed by you to the letter, JUST HAPPENS TO BE taking lessons in, not only Chinese, but fencing! And, he JUST HAPPENS TO have a ring that JUST HAPPENS TO look exactly like the Black Cat Miraculous you saw in that one book you JUST HAPPEN TO have.
My point is: Gabriel was preparing to send Adrien to Tibet to help his mom, but since "Simon Says/Jackady," he is hesitant. If Hawk Moth sees that Cat Noir is in China, how will he react? Will he inadvertently be putting his son and wife in more danger than he intended? Or - if even possible - more danger than he faces every day???
One last thing: one of the Miraculous Ladybug specials JUST HAPPENS TO BE called "The Chinese Legend," and we JUST HAPPEN TO BE getting a comic series that features Ladybug in China working with Chinese superheroes.
I think "TCL" will follow two separate plot lines: one of Marinette/Ladybug learning of her ancestors and Tikki's past, and one of Adrien/Cat Noir working with a mysterious woman whom he later finds out is his mom. Throughout their separate journeys, they will discover the origins of the Miraculous and (inevitably) fight some sort of Villain of the Week.
I don't anticipate much of Ladybug and Cat Noir actually fighting together, but I do think that there might be some sort of Adrinette moment where they run into each other and Marinette trips over something and whatever.
I really like this theory, but I have a feeling I'm going to look back on it after season two and laugh at it. I will then probably rewrite it to apply to the season two revelations, so you have that to look forward to. You know, if you're into that.
