Oh, sure, it had problems, but so did the first three seasons. Yet the fandom preaches all about them. Okay, yeah, sure, they were better, but you're acting like season seven is season five continued. They do share a few of the same elements, such as PSAs (Public Service Announcements) and more than one transformation, but Winx 7 is its own separate thing.
Because I have never done a review of a full season before, so what I'm going to do is state what I liked, what I disliked, and the two things that are stuck in the middle.
Things I Liked
Yep, I'm with that portion of the fanbase. I was just really hoping Riven would stay out, and he did. Yes, I know what you're thinking: "There's still season eight and World Of Winx!" Honestly, I doubt that's going to happen. I think she will either get a new guy, or Rainbow will break the all-time record of Winx-without-love-interests and keep her single for the rest of the show. I want Musa to be happy, so if she gets a non-jerk boyfriend I'll be happy for her. But I'd also like the plot twist of her staying single so she could sing Beyonce and chillax with Roxy, although I doubt chillaxing with Roxy will ever happen. (Speaking of Roxy, we'll be getting to her.)
Kalshara
I feel like she was a good villain. She showed that she had manipulation skills like Valtor, and she was either going to find that Ultimate Power or die trying (which she did). Her main problem is her brother. Towards the end, she was ready to ditch him and use the Ultimate Power for herself. She should've done that several years ago.
The Fairy Animals
They were all cool, and although they did comic relief a little too often, it was actually entertaining comic relief (most of the time). Amarok, Critty, and Squonk were wonderful. Shiny's gimmick with Brandon wasn't that good, but she still looked cool. Elas was fine. I feel like Flitter didn't get much attention compared to the others. (Like fairy, like animal...)
Things I Disliked
No. Just no. Despite myself, I laugh at what he does sometimes. But all he does is waste time.
The Butterflix Dance
The majority of the fanbase hates this dance because it's childish, and "childish" equals "terrible." I don't hate it. I'm not the hugest fan of the choreography, but I think the music is what's killing it. I've dubbed other music over it, and it's much better. My favorite renditions are "Gangnam Style," "Uptown Funk," and anything by Lady Gaga.
In case you'd like to try it for yourself:
1. Pull up the Butterflix transformation sequence in one tab (this is on YouTube, by the way).
2. Mute the volume on the video.
3. In a separate tab, pull up the song you'd like.
4 YouTube will automatically mute that video, too. You'll have to unmute it.
5. Make sure both videos are at the very beginning.
6. Press play on the video with the song.
7. Do not start the Butterflix vid until the music has begun.
Trust me: it looks a lot better. Also, if the song is still going and the video has ended, then you may want to start it over.
Elas and his ever-evolving horn
Why give Elas an upgrade if you're just going to remove him from the show at the end of the season? It just seems like another stupid way to worship Bloom.
Mixed Feelings
While they did add a hugely awesome dynamic to the last four episodes...do we really still need the Trix? I think Rainbow's trolling us at this point. Pretty soon, the Rickroll will be replaced by the Trixroll. They'll be on Good Morning America. The madness will never end!
I wish we could've learned more about the Trix's Fairy Animals. They looked so cool! And exactly how much would they have been able to do if they had kept the Ultimate Power and not been stopped by the Winx? I want to see this magic's full potential.
(Just in case you're not aware, a Rickroll is when you leave a link saying it's something and it leads you to the song "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley.)
Roxy's Treatment
Well, she's not a background character. And without her, the Winx wouldn't have known the animals were in danger half the time. And she was the main runner of the Animal Rescue Park. And she was leading a battalion of minor fairies during the Battle of Hogwarts - er - Alfea. (That's what I call all final battles fought on campus. It's based off of the final battle in Harry Potter.)
But...she was standing right fricking there when that magic light gave the Winx Butterflix. And there were some episodes where she either wasn't in it at all or only had one mention. The writers aren't even bothering to make up reasons for ignoring her at this point. They just kinda say "Eh...screw her."
If you're going to ignore a character, at least mention a reason for it.
